Sonic Origins Review
Sonic is back! This time, members of the Sonic Mania team have updated Sonic for 16:9 with Sonic Origins, a Sonic compilation featuring Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic CD, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. While Sonic Origins isn’t the first time we’ve seen a…
Changed Music? I‘m out
Would have been worth it if they actually decided to redo all the animations and make them in 24 or 30 fps or even 60.. Nope nothing. NOTHING WAS CHANGED, I can just get these games online for free. Such a cash grab
Sonic Origins was actually mostly developed by SEGA, the actual devs behind Sonic Mania had little work here from what I heard.
Is there an option to play these games as they were originally released without all the new additions?
What's better this or sonic mania?
I would love to see a Sonic animated series the style of the cut scenes.
Brutally honest like gamespot is always, perfect !
awful awful review. the reading of it was pretty good though.
Coins?….. Rings!
Waiting for a mod to restore the original MJ tracks.
Pretty sure you just gave it a bad review because the did not pay you enough
I hope they fix these bugs before the physical copy
Besides the music, this collection is spot on accurate with controls and visuals. Playing on the Series X with a TV that supports 120 Hz and Dolby Atmos/Vision… it’s the way these games were meant to be played. The price tag is fine by me for 16:9 and, again, the most accurate input since Sonic Jam (which I argue was actually better than the Genesis).
If people are really willing to pay 40 USD for a free game to have the music removed then I really do give up. Looks like their budget was less than 40 USD.
Would love a HD remaster of the Adventure games on Dreamcast. Surprised they've never been re released since Gamecube / PS2
Ah so you guys got it 2 days early eh?
Great review. And really well said, that no matter what happens to the Sonic franchise (and we know exactly what this means), we'll have the awesome classics to fall back on. Plus there's tons of great mods like Sonic 3 Complete, because I really prefer the original Sonic 3 music…
Real sad there's no new artworks to unlock, just things we've already seen. Poor Cybershell will be disappointed.
anyone else bothered by the sonic two shield in sonic origins?

Hey guys – I edited this video.
I’m sorry I used the incorrect Hidden Palace Zone – I played through the game in Story mode and missed the zone (which I’m guessing you have to do something special to find, as running through normal didn’t get me there). I didn’t have time to go back and capture it – so I made the wrong decision to put the other one. I should have put generic Sonic 2 footage, and I goofed, im sorry.
And yes – I put the cut Sonic 3 tracks on purpose. OG Launch Base Zone & IceCap Zone rock and it felt like honoring those tracks.

Sonic origins comes close to being the definitive collection it should be but falls short of the finish line. Sounds like classic Sega to me.
6:22 but ins tht the point of the transition?, the player falls to the ground and he need to jump out of the sand, i remenber that.
Will buy this. But when the price is fair. When gets a huge discount.
This is what mario 3d all star could have been
lol "I know a lot of my problems with Sonic Origins sound like nitpicks…" that's because they are. You're a reviewer and reviewers gotta nitpick. Just comes with the territory.
PHYSICAL RELEASE OR IM NOT BUYING IT
I mean if the original MJ music was in Sonic 3 and Knuckles I'd be a lot happier but the replacement music is just awful to put it mildly. Music can make or break a game and in this case the new music makes me not want to play. Thank God for modders though but still.
The checkpoints you’re seeing already marked off even though you didn’t touch them is because you touched another checkpoint that is farther along than they are. I.e., you are backtracking without realizing it, along a different path than the one you came. The original did this as well, but you’re identifying it as a bug not in the original version.
I have played through Sonic 1 and 2 so many times in my life I can't bear to do it anymore. For myself, Sonic CD and 3 and Knuckles aren't worth the price. Though the challenge mode sounds appealing. If Sega piled the old Master System and Game Gear Sonics on here with a lower price it might be worth it.
SEGA
The replacement tracks in Sonic 3 are awful compared to the originals.
There's a lot to unpack here, a lot of bad takes but I'll address one thing.
Complaining about there being no save states. Seriously? Save states, and also to the same extent rewind as is popular lately, are severely overpowered and turn it into a sightseeing thing, as opposed to playing a game.
And Sonic Origins even without save states still effectively has almost the same thing*. These games are littered with checkpoints, and in the normal game mode you have infinite lives, *and the game auto saves at every checkpoint too. So you can shut the game off at any time and continue very near to where you left off.
This is plenty easy as it is. Probably too easy, but whatever.
Wow… triple A price for 30 year old games and they STILL gouged for DLC? That's awful. I'll pass until they get this right. Thanks for the heads-up!
Who cares waiting for genesis mini 2
It amazes me sonic is the franchise that he is considering Sega has sabotaged him at every turn since Sonic and Knuckles.
Mighty and Ray DLC inc
I'm still buying it love my blue blur!!!
"…but Sonic Veterans…" I'm thinking those brave souls aren't exactly popping up at the local mixers anytime soon. Most didn't make it outta trying to set up the time on their vcr's
