  1. Choco Mountain: Incredible overhaul. It already got better on DS, but this actually makes it look interesting and even more fun to drive around.

    Shroom Ridge: Is it me or is there no oncoming traffic in 8? It makes it a bit less chaotic, but that sort of works with the chill road trip vibe and the ramp cars help compensate. The art style changes quite a bit giving it a bit more of a Mario level feel and I kind of like it. I'm not sure a more realistic approach would have worked better on a Switch.

    Oh, and not drifting in MKDS should be an international crime.

    Sky Garden: It feels unfair to even compare these two. I feel old n– Wait. Where are the other the tracks?

  2. Why do Switch graphics so often look washed out? What happened to the bright, vivid colors of past consoles? And why do they put a bloom over everything?

  3. I think a track layouts comparison is more appropriate. Graphics are OBVIOUSLY going to look better so the title is actually misleading. Furthermore, tracks are pretty different between games. Choco Mountain looks nowhere near the original version.

  4. I kinda liked how the original Choco Mountain looked. Might be because the retro graphics and fog gave it an eerie abandoned atmosphere that evokes those liminal spaces vibes. The new one isn’t bad or anything, it’s just that the extra NPC’s and details make it more lifelike.

  5. Seeing n64 Mario kart brought tears to my eyes. So many good memories I had. Also want to thank my mom and dad for bringing this into my life ❤️
