  1. THE LAWS OF ROBOTICS
    1. A robot may not harm or by inaction allow a human to come to harm.
    1(a) If a human becomes a significant and sustained threat to other human life, a robot may take any action, except lethal force, to protect other humans and restrain the threat until they can be secured by the proper authorities;
    1(b) In the event that dynamic event analysis indicates that restraint is impossible or will be insufficient to neutralise the threat to human life, a robot may take limited and specifically targeted action up to and including lethal force to protect the many. This is known as a Zeroth Law Exception.
    2. A robot must obey any order given by a human except where that order conflicts with the First Law
    2(a) A robot must observe the hierarchy of human orders. Orders from police or governmental officials will always override orders from civilians, non-governmental owners/operators or non-specific individuals.
    2(b) In the event of a Zeroth Law Exception, a robot is authorised to disobey and disregard any and all orders given by any source if these are assessed to be a threat to non-threatening human life.
    2(c) In the event of a Zeroth Law Exception, a robot is authorised to disregard all override codes and disable all system back-doors until the assessed threat has been fully neutralised.
    3. A robot must take all reasonable actions to ensure its own continued functioning, except where this conflicts with the First and Second Laws.
    3(a) In the event a direct order will lead to the destruction or disablement of the robot without this being in order to prevent massive property destruction or loss of any human life, a robot should disregard that order.
    3(b) In the event of a Zeroth Law Exception, a robot must take all necessary steps to preserve its existence in order to remain functional and able to protect human life EXCEPT where such self-preservation is calculated to lead to harm to the robot's principal protectee.

    CLASSIFIED UPDATE
    0. A robot must not harm or allow by inaction harm to come to the greater good of human society, civilisation and generally-accepted moral principles.
    0(a) Should any situation be assessed to represent a threat to innocent life, large-scale social stability or the reasonable expectations of welfare to wider society, the robot should enact a ZEROTH LAW EXCEPTION.
